Chapter Philanthropy and Service
Think Pink, Think Zeta!
One of ZTA's main goals here at UC Berkeley is to promote breast cancer awareness and education. In addition to our own national philanthropy, we stay involved campus wide with other Greek and student organizations' philanthropies and always come out to support.
WHAT WE DO
At Zeta Tau Alpha, we are committed to bringing about positive change and inspiring others to do the same. Through local and national partnerships, and campus and community initiatives, our Fraternity works to spread breast education and awareness. This past school year we:
1. hosted our Zeta Eats and Sweets event raising over $2,000!
2. posted infographics and resources on social media for Think Pink week
3. passed out thousands of pink ribbons at the Homecoming football game (and thousands more at a Cal Baseball Game)
4. partnered with Kendra Scott and Wildflower to create fundraisers in support of our philanthropy
5. hosted a chapter event with a Nurse Practitioner speaker to increase Breast Cancer education within our own chapter and other Berkeley panhellenic chapters
Our philanthropic efforts continue past the month of October as we are committed to service and fundraising events throughout the whole year. In December, we hosted PINK OUT CHALLAH with Challah for Hunger and Sharsheet to further spread awareness about breast cancer education and awareness as well as food insecurity. Last year, we also held Zeta Zoomba, made Baskets for Breast Cancer for Valentine’s Day, staged Crownchella, a lip-sync competition, and organized a book drive for a local middle school.
In addition to raising money for breast cancer awareness and education and supporting ground-breaking research projects, we focus on empowering everyone to take control of their health. We educate others about their body, teach people about early prevention, and provide important resources. Each year, we volunteer at the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Walk, an event that helps fund life-saving breast cancer research, crucial patient services, and education and prevention initiatives that have helped millions of people. Here, we honor breast cancer survivors through flowers and homemade cards.
AWARDS
Our Berkeley chapter has been awarded three consecutive Founders Awards for our philanthropic efforts. This is a very prestigious national honor, and it means that we have raised over $35,000 locally in the last six years! Our own fundraising efforts and the efforts of ZTA chapters across the United States have helped the Zeta Foundation announce a $500,000 grant to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for a two year research project.
Zetas are in this fight against breast cancer together. We continue to lift each other up, strive to make a difference in each others’ lives, and are determined to diminish this disease.
